05/14/2010 - Hoover, AL (Sportsbook Betting Lines) - Joey Sindelar fired a seven-under 65 to share the first-round lead Friday with three other players at the Regions Charity Classic.
Russ Cochran, Bobby Clampett and Peter Senior also carded 65s on the Ross Bridge course to join Sindelar in first place. All four co-leaders are seeking their first Champions Tour win.
David Frost, David Peoples and R.W. Eaks each shot a six-under 66, while Tom Kite, Ben Crenshaw and Corey Pavin led 11 players tied at 67.
Ken Green made his first individual start since the bottom of his right leg was amputated following a car accident last summer that killed his girlfriend and brother.
Green opened with a two-over 74 and was tied for 69th place in a 77-player field. He played with Mike Reid last month at the Legends of Golf, but Friday marked his first solo round since last June.
Sindelar played in the fourth group out and opened the tournament with a birdie on No. 1, knocking a wedge to eight feet. It was the first of seven birdies in a flawless round for the 52-year-old, who is still chasing his maiden victory on the Champions Tour after winning seven times on the PGA Tour.
"I played well tee-to-green," said Sindelar. "Today was one of those non- stressful days.
Sindelar, 52, is playing his third season on the Champions Tour. He has finished runner-up three times, including at the Legends of Golf three weeks ago, where he and John Cook lost in a playoff to Mark O'Meara and Nick Price.
Cochran took the lead by himself with a birdie at the 16th hole Friday, but then three-putted for a bogey at the 17th to fall into a share of first with Sindelar. The 51-year-old hasn't won since capturing his only PGA Tour title in 1991.
"Hit a poor putt at No. 17, but overall I played really solid," said Cochran. "Pleased with my attitude and effort today."
Like Sindelar, Clampett and Senior both carded bogey-free rounds on a day when the course yielded the lowest single-round scoring average in tournament history at 69.519 shots.
Senior, playing in his first season on the Champions Tour, was the last of the co-leaders in the clubhouse. The 50-year-old Australian collected four consecutive birdies between the 13th and 16th holes.
Clampett, 50, had three birdies over the last six holes to secure his 65. He is making just his second start on tour.
NOTES: Green is playing on a prosthetic limb...Defending champion Keith Fergus opened with a 71 and was tied for 55th place...Ross Bridge is part of the Robert Trent Jones Trail.

Kurt Warner to start, Matt Leinart to watch
Despite the debate that's swirling , Kurt Warner will remain the starting quarterback for the Arizona Cardinals, coach Dennis Green said today. The Arizona Cardinals are the +7 point underdog at online sportsbook MySportsbook.com for this Sunday's game.
Green's comment came in a statement released by the team following an ESPN report that Green decided that rookie Matt Leinart would replace Warner as starter for Sunday's game at Atlanta.
"Generally talking about the starting lineup is not something we do," Green told the AP. "However, given the speculation that was out there we want to make it clear. We're disappointed after last week, but we still expect to be a playoff football team and we fully expect Kurt Warner to be the quarterback that leads us. That has not changed."
